Mu Cang Chai, nestled in the mountainous province of Yen Bai in northwest Vietnam, is a destination of stunning beauty, globally renowned for its terraced rice fields carved into the mountainside. Classified as a national heritage site, these lush, sculpted hillsides transform into a golden ocean during the harvest season, creating a breathtaking natural spectacle. This region is also a highlight of the Northwest Vietnam Cycling Loops, a haven for adventure cyclists riding gravel or all-terrain bikes. The dramatic landscapes—towering limestone peaks, cascading rice terraces, remote valleys, and rugged highland passes—present some of the most challenging and rewarding cycling routes in Southeast Asia. Destinations such as: Sapa, Huynh Nhai, Tuan Giao, Mu Cang Chai, and Moc Chau connect to form an unforgettable loop, offering cyclists both raw natural beauty and rich cultural encounters.
Meet in Hanoi, where your guide will provide a trip briefing before a full-day guided exploration of the city. In the morning, visit key landmarks such as the former French Colonial Palace and Quan Thanh Temple, followed by a short walk with scenic views over West Lake. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in town.
In the afternoon, continue to the Temple of Literature, Hoa Lo Prison, and conclude with a visit to the National History Museum. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Water Puppet Show and dinner before boarding the overnight train to Lao Cai. Your guide will accompany you throughout the entire journey.
