A cycling day trip to the legendary Cu Chi Tunnels offers far more than a visit to one of Vietnam’s most historic wartime sites. This immersive journey combines fascinating history with scenic countryside exploration, giving travelers a deeper understanding of both Vietnam’s past and present.

Pedaling along peaceful backroads and quiet village lanes, you’ll pass lush rice paddies, rubber plantations, tropical gardens, and vibrant rural communities where everyday life unfolds at a gentle pace. Along the way, encounter friendly locals, bustling markets, small family workshops, and farmers working the fertile land of southern Vietnam.

At the historic Cu Chi Tunnels, discover the remarkable underground network built and used by the Viet Minh and later the Viet Cong during decades of conflict. Explore hidden entrances, living quarters, command centers, and secret passageways while learning about the ingenuity, resilience, and determination of the Vietnamese people during wartime.

Blending cultural discovery, historical insight, and scenic cycling through authentic countryside landscapes, this day trip provides a memorable glimpse into the soul of rural Vietnam beyond the busy streets of Ho Chi Minh City.

Cu Chi is 65 km northwest of Saigon. The Cu Chi tunnel network became legendary during the war. It has three levels and stretches over 250 km.

This excursion combines some of the best cycling routes with the opportunity to learn more about the war and the resilience of the Vietnamese people.

Depart from Saigon at 7:30 am by vehicle, transferring to the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City. The ride begins in rural villages. We start cycling on country back roads through small villages before a ferry crossing.

We continue along dirt tracks by the river, pedaling through rubber plantations, fruit gardens, rice paddy fields, and hamlets where rice paper is made by hand. We then cycle along countryside roads to a local restaurant for lunch before spending an hour exploring the Cu Chi tunnels.

Next, we visit a local cricket farm, where you can taste fried crickets wrapped in spring rolls—just like a local snack. This is a great opportunity to experience a unique local business. In the afternoon, we return to Saigon by vehicles.
