Join the Vietnam Backroads team for an unforgettable cycling journey beginning in Ha Tien, where you’ll meet for a short briefing before setting off along the southern coastline of the Mekong Delta. Ride through scenic stops like Hon Phu Tu and continue to Rach Gia for your first overnight stay. The journey carries on through Giong Rieng to Can Tho, before finishing in vibrant Ho Chi Minh City. This tour offers a flexible and immersive ride through the Delta’s waterways, villages, and lush landscapes all the way to Saigon.

Depart at 7:30 AM and transfer for about one hour to a small village near Ba Hon Market. From here, the first day begins with a leisurely cycling journey through the idyllic countryside. Pedal past lush farmlands and admire the striking karst mountain landscapes on the way to Mo So Cave.

The route to Hang Mo So is particularly scenic, with golden rice fields shimmering in the sunlight and winding paths framed by limestone mountains. Like many of the surrounding peaks, Mo So once served as a military base and radio station during the Khmer Rouge era. According to geological studies, these caves were formed millions of years ago when the land lay more than two meters below sea level. Water lines still mark the rock surfaces, shaping a fascinating network of caves, hollows, and unique stalactite formations.

After exploring the cave on foot, return to your bikes and continue riding toward Bai Duong Beach, passing through Ba Trai and reaching Hon Phu Tu. Take time to explore the surrounding area and visit a pagoda nestled into the mountainside. Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch by the beach before setting off again along the scenic southern coastline.

Cycle through rolling karst landscapes, stopping for photos of charming fishing villages. The route then undulates through rice paddies before transitioning onto peaceful canal-side paths leading to Road QL80, where the cycling day concludes. From here, transfer by vehicle for about one hour to Rach Gia City.

After a leisurely breakfast, we take a short transfer to a rural village in Rach Soi, where our cycling journey begins across lush, verdant fields. Venture into the rice basket of the Mekong Delta, riding along rivers as sampan boats glide beside you and children wave cheerfully from the paths.

Cycle along narrow village trails winding through endless rice paddies, stopping at a bustling local market in the countryside. Along the way, you’ll have many opportunities to visit colourful Buddhist pagodas and temples, as well as local markets, offering a glimpse into daily life along the riverbanks and stunning views of the Mekong countryside.

We stop in the small town of Giong Rieng to visit the local market, enjoy a coffee break, and taste fresh fruits and coconut milk. Afterwards, continue cycling through a maze of small canals, observing how locals live, fish, and farm. Ride across narrow bridges over water channels, pass stilt houses along the waterways, and experience authentic riverside life—lunch en route.

The vibrant scenery, quiet country lanes, and charming Khmer villages provide plenty of opportunities to meet friendly locals and learn more about rice cultivation, vegetables, and tropical fruits. The paths are generally smooth and in good condition, though they include many narrow bridges with gentle ups and downs, offering magnificent views of fertile farmland and abundant harvests.

Today’s ride ends in Thoi Lai, followed by a one-hour transfer to Can Tho City.

After breakfast, check out and board a motorized boat for a ride along the Can Tho River to Cai Rang, a great opportunity to observe the vibrant daily life along the riverbanks. Can Tho is known as the capital of the Mekong Delta and is famous for its floating markets, which operate in the morning with larger wholesale boats and smaller retail boats moving around, creating a picturesque scene. The Cai Rang floating market is one that travelers love to visit. It is open all day, but it is busiest from sunrise until about 9:00 a.m. Most of the goods sold are farm products, local commodities, and specialties from neighboring areas.

After visiting the floating market, take a short transfer across the Hau Giang River to Binh Minh’s rural village for a half-day ride to Vinh Long. Experience Khmer life along narrow paths through the stunning countryside, passing colorful Khmer temples and lush orchards on the way to Tam Binh. Lunch will be served locally before a transfer to Ho Chi Minh City.

I am sorry it is not more constructive but really I have no criticisms. For us we were very lucky as you we incredibly flexible and could be as there were just the two of us. You have two converted bike tourers! As for value for money it is certainly not the cheapest trip but good value for what we do, the quality of equipment and for 2 comfortable hotels. However payment is tricky! I understand the need for a deposit but it was surprisingly difficult to do an international bank transfer. None the less I was more comfortable with doing that than supplying my card details. Payment of the balance at the end would have been much easier to do with a card or knowing dollars was your preferred method of payment I would have taken dollars out in Cambodia and carried them with me. So maybe some more info on that before the tour could have been helpful. Anyway thank you again for a fantastic few days - a real highlight of the trip as a whole! I hope it is ok but I suggested my biking friends from Cambodia get in touch if their tour is taking them through Saigon. Feb 2012

My sister and I just got home after our month-long travels in Southeast Asia. We had an amazing trip! We really enjoyed our experience with Vietnam Backroads Bicycle Tours. Our guide, Nghi, and driver, Mr. Loc, picked us up promptly from our hotel in Ha Tien. Mr. Nghi showed us how to adjust the bicycles and then we were off on our adventure! The bicycle tour was a great way to experience the Mekong Delta. We biked through many villages and saw the surrounding countryside that we probably wouldn't have seen otherwise. It was an eye-opening experience as we biked through villages and greeted the local people- many of whom had not seen a foreigner in a long time. We would highly recommend Vietnam Backroads Bicycle Tours! We would suggest that drinks be included in the price of the tour for lunches and dinners. Also, if it would be possible to set up payment through credit card on your website that would be a lot easier than the hassle of the money transfer. 6 - 7 - 8 July 2012
