Uncover the powerful history and striking landscapes of Central Vietnam on this immersive journey through Quang Tri and beyond. Begin your adventure in the legendary battlefields of Quang Tri, exploring the historic Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, once the dividing line between North and South Vietnam. Visit the iconic Hien Luong Bridge at the 17th parallel, where history and symbolism meet over the tranquil Ben Hai River.

From here, hop on your bike and cycle through peaceful countryside and coastal backroads toward the remarkable Vinh Moc Tunnels—an underground village that tells an extraordinary story of survival during wartime. Continue the journey with a scenic shuttle along quiet coastal routes, where sea breezes, fishing villages, and untouched beaches accompany your ride south. Be back in the enchanting city of Hue in the late afternoon.

We set off at 8:00 a.m. for a leisurely day of cycling to the DMZ and Dong Ha. Beginning with a short transfer to the tranquil Tam Giang Lagoon, we’ll cycle along dirt roads past a quiet beach on the peninsula, and lagoon. Its serene waters and picturesque vistas offer a glimpse into the beautiful scenery and daily life along the river. The route provides an authentic taste of rural Vietnam, framed by the lagoon’s calm beauty. Lunch will be along the way.

We then ride across emerald rice paddies and alongside winding rivers that weave through expansive farmlands to the historic Quang Tri Citadel, where the battle during the Easter Offensive began on 28 June 1972 and lasted 81 days, until 16 September 1972. Afterward, we’ll take a rest during the shuttle transfer to Dong Ha City, stopping at the Quang Tri Museum (2) a treasure trove of history showcasing over 10,000 authentic artifacts that tell the unique story of Quang Tri. Check into the hotel and unwind by the pool.

After breakfast, we set off by support vehicle for a 30-minute drive toward the historic DMZ, beginning with a walking tour on the far side of the historic Hien Luong Bridge. The river once marked the 17th parallel, serving as the border between North and South Vietnam. We then visit the museum and take some photos before starting our bike ride from there.

After nearly 5 km of cycling along the Ben Hai River, we ride through farmland and small hills, passing tranquil lakes and rivers before descending to the Vinh Moc Tunnels, located by the sea. This underground village near the Demilitarized Zone was built between 1965 and 1966. The 2-kilometer, three-level complex, ranging from 8 to 23 meters deep, safely sheltered hundreds of villagers from intense U.S. bombings.

After exploring the tunnels, we get back on our bikes and cycle along secluded beaches, stopping for a lunch break on the coast. We then continue exploring the paved coastal back roads to Cua Viet Beach, where we finish today’s 38 km bike ride before hopping on the support vehicle back to Hue City.
