More and more travelers are choosing a beach vacation to Phu Quoc Island, thanks to its international airport and growing number of direct flights. Instead of connecting through Hà Nội or Ho Chi Minh City, visitors can now fly straight to the island—saving time and starting their holiday sooner.

Often compared in size to Phuket in Thailand, Phu Quoc offers a similar tropical appeal but without the heavy crowds or overdevelopment. With a warm year-round climate, crystal-blue waters, and long stretches of soft, sandy beaches, the island offers a relaxed, natural escape. Still largely undeveloped, Phu Quoc has quickly become one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting new destinations—perfect for travelers seeking pristine beaches, tranquility, and an authentic island experience.

Be met at your location in Saigon by the Vietnam Backroads team. Our team, with a support vehicle, will drive you to the rural area in Long An. Our pro-bike guides will help you check your bikes by adjusting saddle heights and explaining the rules of the road before we head off the beaten track.  Tan An to My Tho is not a long way for morning biking, but the vibrant countryside, dragon fruit farmland, and smooth bike routes are more important than distance.  Take it easy and spend more time experiencing rural life.  A very delicious restaurant in town where you can enjoy lunch before we bike through the home of coconut trees in the afternoon. Make some stops at family workshops producing coconut oils and jelly. Taste seasonal fresh fruits at orchards or small markets in the countryside before we have a ferry ride to Tra Vinh city.

It is said that the Khmer people and their community originated in the Mekong Delta as small fishing villages and had inhabited the region for centuries before the arrival of the Vietnamese. Tra Vinh is a small town and not a touristy destination for bus travelers. So it is tranquil at night. Everything seems to be closed early and almost asleep. The province is considered the homeland of the Khmer, and there are numerous Khmer temples in town and the rural hamlets. You will have a long day today experiencing Khmer life and learning its history. This is the opportunity to ride deeper into the traditional villages of Khmer; ride past thatched houses, take some photos, and visit colorful temples. After lunch at the best restaurant in a small town, we transfer to Tich Thien village, where we continue biking through some islands, with ferry rides on small creeks. We will get on the support vehicle at the outskirts of Binh Minh, drive to the city center, and check into the hotel.

Can Tho is the center as it is the capital city of Vietnam's Mekong Delta. It's well-known for the floating markets of Cai Rang and Phong Dien, which are not far from the city. You will see the most bustling Cai Rang market. After your breakfast at the hotel, get on board the Ninh Kieu pier for a 40-minute motorboat ride. You can see the water taxi, wooden cargo boat, and many commercial sampans advertising what they are selling and buying by loudspeaker on this short boat ride. Then you can see the Cai Rang floating market in action before you get off the boat and carry on your cycling vacation to Rach Gia. Pedal on narrow paths along natural creeks, where you could meet friendly people along country roads who love to have their picture taken with you. There are many sampan boat factories along country roads, fishing nets alongside rivers, so you could stop and see how it works. It depends on how much time you have today, so your biking guide will figure out a transfer to Rach Gia in the afternoon.
