Day
1:
Saigon- Cai Be- Can Tho
25 - 45 km
Begin the trip with a 2-hour transfer to the Mekong Delta, arriving at Ngu Hiep Village in Cai Lay. Pick up the bikes, adjust the saddles, and cycle across the new bridge to Ngu Hiep Island. Explore local life on the island as you ride through lush orchards and a small market filled with fresh tropical fruits, with a chance to taste some along the way before taking a ferry to Tan Phong Island.
The cycling routes on Tan Phong Island follow friendly, narrow paths through rustic villages and a tiny township. Then, enjoy another ferry crossing to Cai Be Town and continue cycling through small canal-side villages. Visit one of the most beautiful traditional ancient houses in the area, Ba Kiet House in Cai Be.
After the visit, enjoy a delicious local meal cooked by the house owner, then continue your ride toward the Mekong River. Take a public ferry to An Binh Island and keep cycling to discover local life across the island. Finally, enjoy the last ferry crossing to Vinh Long, followed by a 1-hour vehicle transfer to Can Tho.

2:
Can Tho- Chau Doc
25 - 45km
After breakfast, we check out and take a motorized boat to the bustling Cai Rang Floating Market. This famous market attracts millions of visitors each year because of its authentic atmosphere. In the early morning, local people from nearby rural villages bring their farm products here by boat. It is a great opportunity to see the lively trading activities in action, as buyers and sellers exchange goods directly from boat to boat.
After visiting the floating market, we disembark and continue by bicycle. We ride along narrow country roads to Phong Dien, exploring local life in the backwaters. After a coffee break in Phong Dien, we continue cycling on smooth village paths and along riverbanks toward Co Do via Thoi Lai. The river network here is intricate, with many small bridges crossing the canals. Along the way, we pass shaded paths, wooden boat-building workshops, rice mills, and everyday scenes of life along the waterways. After a late lunch in a small town, we take a 2-hour shuttle transfer to Chau Doc.

This tour felt really special. We wanted some line away from the main tourist sites to see the daily life of people living in the Mekong Delta and this trip was perfect for that we saw very few other tourists on our route. Phuc had great local knowledge of the area and comfortable the bikes were excellent and we really enjoyed all the local food that we tried. Being able to do a tour of just two people was perfect for us because we could go at our own pace and decide with Phuc how far we wanted to cycle. 7 - 8 - 9 Nov, 2017
Really enjoyed the tour and was the lost way to see the Mekong way of life and beautiful scenery. Phuc was an excellent guide and Viet was friendly and good driver. The lunch on both days was a great soup, early good quality local food. The bikes and equipment were good quality and we were supplied with anything we needed. Phuc was really patient with us and flexible to our needs. He was friendly and informative which enhanced the experience. The organization was good. Viet was always waiting for us at the end. Only slight disappointment was the arrival at West hotel in Can Tho, there was no record our booth and we did not feel welcome as a result. Everything else on the tour was just right. 7 - 8 - 9 Nov, 2017
For a unique and adventurous cycling experience from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh we highly recommend Vietnam Backroads. Our guide Van led our family of four throughout the trip. Van insured our care by providing a personalized and flexible tour according to our abilities and interest. We experienced rural life along the Mekong delta, stopping to eat fruit from local farmers, catching ferries with local, saying hello to many children, meeting a family, seeing duck herders, rice farmers, building, irrigation, floating markets and learning about life for people during monsoons and dry seasons. We stayed in comfortable hotels at night and the whole trip was supported by private transport of our luggage. An unforgettable experience all around. 03 - 04 - 05 January 2020
My girlfriend and I had a great three day trip cycling through the Mekong delta with our guide Phuc. We had lots of fun exploring the countryside and learned a lot from Phuc's local knowledge. The border crossing by boat was well arranged and an easy way to get into Cambodia from Vietnam. The bikes provided were in great condition, and the right size for a 6'6" cyclist. We really enjoyed our days of cycling in de Mekong Delta! The bikes were of good quality, we crossed some beautiful places and nice villages and Phuc was a great guide. The boat trip to Phnom Penh went really well, so we practically have nothing to complain. I thought that we had already dropped a review, but now we did on google and tripadvisor as well. 05 - 06 - 07 September 2022.
