Con Dao is considered one of the most mysterious islands in Southeast Asia. It boasts some of the most beautiful and untouched beaches in Vietnam. Once known as a political prison in the past, today Con Dao surprises travelers with its splendid natural beauty. It is the largest island in a chain of 15 islands and islets. The island is surrounded by lovely beaches, scenic bays, and coral reefs, and is partially covered in dense forests.
There are various activities for tourists to enjoy, such as diving, hiking, and exploring empty coastal roads, deserted beaches, lush forests, white sandy shores, and numerous historical sites. Cycling from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) to the Con Dao Islands is also an exciting experience.

Day
1:
Saigon- Cai Be- Can Tho
25 - 45 km
Leave the bustling city of Ho Chi Minh behind and enjoy a 2-hour drive by private vehicle to Ngu Hiep Village. Once there, hop on your bike and adjust your saddle for a fully immersive experience of the landscape, local people, and the unique cultures of the Mekong Delta.
We cross a small branch of the river to reach Ngu Hiep Island, cycling through fertile soil and lush fruit orchards. After about 12 km, we arrive at the ferry and board it to Tan Phong Island. The crossing takes just 10 minutes, bringing us close to Cai Be township.
Enjoy a delicious lunch featuring local dishes at a welcoming family home. This incredible ride offers plenty of time to observe water-based transportation in rural Mekong villages. Many smaller islands only have primary and middle schools, so high school students commute by ferry to Cai Be. As a result, you’ll see numerous small boats with long-tail engines transporting both people and farm produce to the Cai Be land market and floating market.
We continue exploring vibrant islands, local lifestyles, family-run workshops, and other fascinating aspects of daily life before rejoining our support vehicle for a one-hour drive to Can Tho.

Along the way, we stop to visit the Tam Vu Victory Historical Site, where the Viet Minh fought against French colonial forces between 1946 and 1948. Continuing on bamboo-lined paths and quiet rural roads, we cycle through picturesque rice fields with lunch served en route to Soc Trang. In the afternoon, we explore a local market and colorful Khmer temples before crossing a network of canals to visit the famous Bat Pagoda. Con Dao is one of Vietnam’s emerging destinations, renowned for its crystal-clear blue waters, pristine sandy beaches, and peaceful atmosphere. It is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life, offering an ideal setting to relax and unwind for a few days—or even weeks. End of service.
We used this tour as a way to get from Ho Chi Minh City to Soc Trang to take the Superdong ferry to the Con Dao islands. It was the low season, so it was just our family of four. The tour was exactly as advertised: we rode almost exclusively on back roads with no cars and trucks, saw the beauty of rural Vietnam, and caught glimpses of what rural life is like. Our guide, Cong, was excellent. He adapted our trip perfectly when one of our kids got sick on the trip and he was happy to let our youngest son set the pace. Cong was endlessly helpful. He even helped us to plan how to get back to Can Tho after our stay on Con Dao, and he was always a wealth of information. The tour is expensive, even by North American standards, but the organization, the level of customization, and the ability to feel confident that you will have a great experience makes it worth the price. 28 - 29 - 30 June 2019
We loved the trip! We appreciated the flexibility of the company and Mr Cong - from buying a new bike for our younger son when he was too small for the regular bikes, to dealing with our older son when he got sick during the trip. The back road trails were so much fun to ride along and we learned a lot about life in the Mekong Delta. Cong was Loc made us feel that everything was taken care of and we didn't need to worry about anything. 28 - 29 - 30 June 2019
I really loved this trip. A perfect way to see rural Vietnam. The trip was very memorable. Dat was an excellent guide. Some suggestions (Not criticisms) which may help: - Consider selling helpful equipment, and gloves as an extra cost - Consider dinners as optional. They were very good but perhaps had some flexibility. Overall the trip has exceeded my expectations. 15 - 16 - 17 December 2022
